1. Ferrum’s Billy Wagner Makes Baseball Hall of Fame

“Former Ferrum College and Major League Baseball standout Billy Wagner has been selected for induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The seven-time MLB All-Star had a record-setting baseball career at Ferrum from 1991-93 before being drafted by the Astros in 1993. In his 10th and final year on the ballot, Wagner received over 82..5% of the total votes cast, exceeding the 75% minimum required to be inducted.”

Wagner, who finished five votes shy of election in 2024, will be the ninth reliever elected to the Hall of Fame, joining Mariano Rivera, Dennis Eckersley, Hoyt Wilhelm, Goose Gossage, Trevor Hoffman, Lee Smith, Rollie Fingers and Bruce Sutter. Wagner will be inducted July 27 in Cooperstown, N.Y.
