NEWS
5. Lightning Round
» What’s In A Name? The Mississippi University for Women, which announced a name change just a week ago, will not be using that new name after all. A letter sent to the campus community and alumni via email Wednesday suggests that Wynbridge State University of Mississippi flopped as well. Nora Miller, the university’s president and an alumna, said in the letter that the institution would be taking “a strategic pause” in order to “give our entire community time to regroup and consider all perspectives.”
» Hockey (M). It was an upsetting weekend for top-15 ranked teams in their conference tournaments. Cortland edged No. 4 Geneseo, 3-2, in the SUNYAC semis, while No. 12 Skidmore took out No. 8 Elmira, 4-1, in the NEHC semis. Salve Regina bounced No, 9 Curry, 7-2, in the CCC semifinals, while No. 10 St. Norbert ousted No. 11 Trine, 4-3, in overtime in the NCHA semis.
» Hockey (W). Wasn’t much better for teams ranked 11-15 on the women’s side, as Nos. 10-11-13-15 fell by the wayside. No. 8 Hamilton ousted No. 10 Trinity from the NESCAC tourney, 2-0, while Southern Maine bounced No. 11 Norwich, 2-1, in overtime in the NEHC semis. Curry blanked No. 13 Endicott, 1-0, in the CCC final four and Saint Mary’s eliminated No. 15 Augsburg from the MIAC tourney by a 2-1 count.
