TOP STORY
1. Statesmen Make a Statement
For the second consecutive year, the Hobart men sit atop the Division III ice hockey world. The Statesmen defended their 2023 national title with a 2-0 victory against #3 Trinity (Conn.) in the Bantams’ backyard in Hartford, Conn.
Sophomore GK Damon Beaver stopped all 25 shots he faced in posting his seventh shutout of the year, equaling his own school record. Luke Aquaro scored in the final minute of the second period and Matthew Iasenza added an empty-net tally for Hobart.
Trinity netminder Devon Bobak made 32 saves in a losing cause for the Bantams (25-4-1).
» The Big Picture. Hobart is the first team to win back-to-back national titles since St. Norbert in 2011 and 2012.
» Man-Down. The Statesmen killed off all four Trinity power plays to raise their total to 92 of 95 power-plays on the season - a NCAA record 96.8 percent.
